Traditional Style Medicine Drum – made to order

Traditional Medicine Drums from our workshop are always made from Deer hide. The membrane in these drums is mounted directly on the wooden rim, and the ropes are connected in a classic pattern with a cross or “tree,” thus creating a handle on the inner side of the drum. The handle is finished with recycled leather. These drums are lightweight and portable, featuring a beautiful, deep sound with directed vibration. Each drum comes with a wooden beater hand-felted with wool. The membrane is permanently attached to the wooden rim without the possibility of tuning. Therefore, working with their sound involves working with the surrounding humidity, understanding that the tone will naturally oscillate within the specified parameters of the given hide.

 This product is crafted upon request. When you place an order, we meticulously handcraft a drum with the hide  from the sam animal specious,  wood, style, and accents. It won’t be an exact replica of the drum depicted in the images, but we strive to ensure a close resemblance. Kindly anticipate a waiting period of 60-90 days for our drums. While we may occasionally finish orders earlier, we recommend allowing 60-90 days for the completion of more intricate customized items. The time required to finalize your drum is influenced by factors such as order volume, wood and hide availability, and the intricacy of your chosen instrument.
